A Song About Frogs ©1999 Fred Nachbaur 'Twas on a starry summer night; the princess alone in the wood. "I've many a suitor strong and wise, but if I only could Discover a lover kind yet bold, 'ere time passing by makes me bitter, grey and old! I'd trade all riches in my castle hold For just one precious little heart of gold!" She took a rest from her wandering 'longside a magical bog. Where perched upon a lilypad, a magical little frog. "Oh Princess won't you marry me, I promise delight in our domesticity. Enchantment comes with just one little kiss, Rewarding us both with a life of bliss." Beauty's in the eye of the beholder I love you, don't you see me here? Beauty's in the eye of the beholder So why can't you be holding me? The princess said, "You are just a frog, a homely froggie at that. You cannot support me the way that you should, if so I'll eat my hat!" The frog said "My dear, you know nothing yet. I'll show you a time you will never e'er forget. If you'll let me use my enchantery, And walk with me down to ye olde chancery!" The princess said, "I am not convinced, I feel so strange and odd. Perhaps you are an enchanted prince, perhaps you are a fraud!" But she took a chance and picked him up. She scrunched fast her eyes, and her lips she puckered up. 'Midst smoke and thunder there now appeared Two cute little frogs on the lily pad! Beauty's in the eye of the beholder Our love's as blind as a bat, you see! Beauty's in the eye of the beholder So glad that you be holding me! Yes beauty's in the eye of the beholder We're really two of a kind, it's true! Beauty's in the eye of the beholder I'm so beholden to you! I'll always be in love with you, it's true! And I know that you love me too! (Ribbit! Ribbit!) :-)
